Background |
| |
|
|
In the changing business environment of the 1990s
IBM recognised the need for a change of Leadership style and greater
collaboration between Country Managers across Europe. The requirement
for serving customers across boundaries necessitated a flexible
response from the IBM businesses in every country in Europe.

Project Objectives |
| |
|
|
A series of Leadership Development Workshops were designed in
order to address the following key objectives :
- To identify and practise the styles that would encourage greater
participation and flexibility in the Country Teams.
- To make plans for changing the way in which the businesses
collaborated and the role of the Country Managers in that process.
- To identify the key Business Opportunities that the Team of
Country Managers could exploit for the financial benefit of
IBM.
All the Country Managers returned at 3-4 month intervals over a
one year period in order to review and re-plan.

Outcomes |
| |
|
|
The
investment of time and money in these workshops enabled the following
changes to take place:
- Many changes in the ways in which teams were organised and managed
took place in the countries.
- Morale improved during a particularly difficult period of the
business environment shown up in the IBM Vision and Values
Surveys.
- A new IBM computer was launched as a result of the discussions
and agreements on the second workshop.
